GPI FAQ’s

What the Hell is this all about? And, why should I care?

You mean, “Who is the GPI?” Find out here.

Who do I contact for help using the site?

Please send an e-mail to web@guerrillapoets.org.

Who do I contact to book the GPI for a gig?

If you’d like to invite guerrilla poets to perform at your upcoming event, festival, rally, or other event, please e-mail dcguerrillapoetry-discuss@lists.riseup.net. Someone will get back to you shortly.

Who do I contact for more information?

Send us an e-mail to dcgpi@guerrillapoets.org with any questions (or comments) you have.

How can I learn more about the GPI?

Feel free to explore the site, especially the “artist” and “poems” categories. In addition, please feel free to come visit us at any upcoming performance, especially the lyrical ambushes in Dupont Circle every 1st and 3rd Monday—our regular open mic and public outreach events. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail us at dcgpi@guerrillapoets.org.

What resources are available to help me start a guerrilla poetry insurgency in my area?

To start off, check out our recipe for a lyrical ambush. In addition, we’re always happy to bring a crew anywhere within the mid-Atlantic region, depending on availability, to conduct a workshop to share tools around writing, performance, and organizing. We may be able to help with concrete resources (e.g., flyers, amplification), depending on your level of commitment and participation. Please come talk to us at an event, or e-mail us at dcgpi@guerrillapoets.org. We can provide more information and help once we get a sense of where you are in the process.

How can I become a GPI artist? How can I perform with you?

“Membership” in the GPI is free, available to anyone, and easy. Just come to any of our events and talk to one of us. Whether you’re inclined to take the mic; pick up an instrument; draw with some chalk; blow bubbles; hand out flyers; or simply talk to passersby about your perspectives – all you’ve got to do is participate, and you’ll be as much a part of the group as anyone else.

If you’ve got material you want to share on the site, please check out [how to post].

SITE FAQ’s

What do the “categories” in the left navigation bar mean?

To make it easy for folks to find what they are looking for, we have tried to break things down a little bit. Looking for an MP3? Try Audio. Looking for what happened at a recent show? Try Report backs… Dig an artist’s work? You can click their name, and get a list of everything they’ve contributed to the site.

How do I explore the website?

The left column of the website contains blog navigation, with which people can explore various contributions by members of GPI and other contributors. People can post their art and thoughts under various categories and search posts by other people.

The right column of the website contains basic information about the GPI, a list of upcoming GPI and community events that links to a larger list, and a link for anyone to add events (no registration necessary).

Who can post here?

The short answer is Anyone! Our aim is to keep things as open as possible. You are free to register and post to the blog, or add your own event. We reserve the right to remove posts reflecting racist or sexist sentiments, or including excessive profanity. We hope not to limit access, and invite you to review other posts and use your discretion in deciding what is appropriate.

How can I become a contributor to guerrillapoets.org?

To become a contributor, you must register to post to the blog. You can register towards the bottom of the left column (there are also quick “Login to Post” and “Register” links at the top of the page). • Word Press will email you a password. Go check your email!
  • The email will contain a link back to the login page, where you can enter your user name and password.

  • We recommend that you edit your profile immediately to change your password to one that you’ll remember. Anything you put under “About the User” will appear with your posts on your contributors page. (Linked from the sidebar.)
  • Use the top light blue toolbar to write a post, where you can also save and upload files.
  • When you are finished with your entry, sign out of Word Press in the upper right corner of the page, which will take you back to the login screen. Click on “back to blog” to get back to the GPI website.

If you want more detailed information about how to post, and such as working with images, uploading and mp3, and such, please read posting.

Do you have more details on how to post?

As a user driven community, WordPress has put together quite a Codex of information you may want to check out. As such, rather than duplicate their work, please check out Writing Post for a closer look at the posting page, or Images and Attachments to see how you can upload and work with photos, mp3s, etc. If this doesnt cover you, again, try searching the Codex or drop us a line at web@guerrillapoets.org. Keep in mind that our ability to instruct you may be limited.

    How do add an event?

Anyone can add their event to to our calendar.

In the navigation bar at the top, click “Add an Event”. On the following page, fill out the details, and click the button “Add as New Event”. Its that easy!

You are required to give us a title, summary, and date. If you have a repeating event, you can enter in several at once, by separating them with commas. (02/07/2007,02/14/2007).

If you make a mistake, don’t worry. You will have a chance to edit it. If you realllly make a mistake, contact us, and we’ll delete it for you.

The events will be seen by our visitors to the site, and in a weekly e-mail being sent to our list.

Can I comment on blog posts? How?

Of course! We would love to hear from you.

Below each post you will see either “be the first to comment” or “x comments”. Click on either, and you will be taken to the post, and presented with a simple form to fill out. Once you submit it, your comment will appear after any existing comments, below the post.
